Colour: Reddish
brown to silver grey. The Azobe changes from
a reddish colour, to finally to a silver grey. This cycle will take 4 - 10
months, depending on sunlight & location of the railway sleepers.
Description: This new azobe is unseasoned (means
it's been freshly cut in the last 6 months) and untreated. It can have splits
& imperfections. Tight grain. Normally straight & square.
Comment: A
stunning piece of hardwood timber, licenced from sustainable sources, suitable
for furniture, lintels, landscaping, steps, decking etc.. Serious weight,
so plan for strong help ! Beautiful.
Weight: Very heavy to lift, especially the 2.6m x 250mm x 150mm. Ranging
from 220 - 260 lb (100 - 120 kilos) Bear this in mind
for carrying sleepers onto site (e.g. the back of a garden). You'll need at
least two strong people.
Cutting: Very hard. You'll need a circular saw / chainsaw / powered saw
to cut these railway sleepers.
Attaching / Fixing: Timberlok will just about screw through these without
a pilot hole with a very powerful drill, but you might consider a small pilot
hole first.
