Of course there's a time and place for conventional decking - it's lighter, cheaper, easier to cut etc.. & boringly sold at every street corner (including by ourselves !)
But if you want a sitting area or raised platform that is unique, substantial, long lasting, and very simple and quick to construct, then consider a decking area from new or used railway sleepers. They are an excellent alternative.
